Aussie jobs to be shipped overseas

Up to 100 IT jobs in QBE Australia are to be offshored to India, a trade union has said.

The IT roles are currently performed in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia according to the Finance Sector Union.

A spokesperson for QBE told Insurance Business: “We have advised the FSU that we will have 100 people going to redeployment.”

The decision is part of QBE’s plans to make cost savings of $250m by the end of 2015. It involves the creation of 700 jobs in the Philippines which will lead to a reduction in total employees in the insurers Australia, Europe and North American branches.

Surely there is an easier way of cutting cost, which in my opinion would be reducing the top salary by $5 million dollars, and equates to $15 million dollars plus interest in 3 years. Shouldn't these employment receipient Countries be creating their own jobs? Whilst Politicians may be do doing little or nothing to intervene in these situations, this job offshoring practice will have negative results that will affect Australia in the long run as there will be a huge level of social decadence emanating from unemployement.
