Specialist (re)insurance brokerage BMS has welcomed Guy Van Dugteren and Andrew McKenzie to its Australian team, effective immediately.

Brisbane-based Van Dugteren, who joined BMS as its new national claims and technical manager for financial lines in Australia, brings over 15 years of experience as an admitted insurance lawyer.

Before joining BMS, he worked at Gallagher, where he held the role of manager for national technical claims. He also served as a solicitor at Colin Biggers & Paisley. In this role, he gained extensive experience in corporate governance, D&O risk advisory services, insurance policy advisory services, construction disputes, claims management audits, and professional indemnity claims.

In his new role, Van Dugteren will lead BMS's Australian financial lines claims and technical function and report to Stuart Davies, the head of financial lines at BMS Australia.

McKenzie, also based in Brisbane, joined BMS in Australia from his most recent role as director of specialties at Aon, where he led the company's Financial Services Group (FSG).

With more than 25 years of experience in the insurance sector, McKenzie brings to BMS Australia a wealth of industry experience and a deep understanding of the risks facing financial institutions, professional service providers, and the boardrooms of corporate Australia. Before his 19 years at Aon, he was the specialty insurance lines leader at Marsh for eight years.

McKenzie is now the head of financial lines, Northern Region in Australia, and reports to Davies.

Davies commented that Van Dugteren's technical legal skills can help the brokerage enhance its marketing and risk management expertise as brokers, while McKenzie's extensive client and placement experience will be a significant boost to its financial lines business.

“It's great to officially welcome Andrew to the team and to announce Guy's appointment. I look forward to working with them both,” Davies continued.

Andrew Godden, the CEO of BMS Australia, added: “At BMS, we have developed an end-to-end financial lines service function, which delivers technical excellence to our clients at all stages of the insurance lifecycle.

“We are proud to say that our integrated financial lines team offers our clients an unparalleled level of expertise in the sector. I am delighted that we are continuing to build out this area of our business with outstanding talent such as Andrew and Guy.”
