Marsh have announced changes at the top of their Australian organisation as John Clayton has been replaced by Scott Leney as CEO Australia while George Tarabaras will take over from Leney as the new leader of Marsh Pty Ltd.

Leney, who has worked for Marsh for over 26 years, will also become the chair of the firm’s Australian executive committee, a managing director of Marsh Inc and a member of the Asia-Pacific executive committee while Tarabaras will retain his responsibilities for leading the Asia-Pacific risk management practice.

Clayton will be responsible for Marsh businesses in New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea as chariman for the Pacific region and will work closely with Leney “to shape the strategy in Australia,” according to a statement released by the company.

Speaking of the changes, Clayton said: “Scott is a proven leader with a deep understanding of our clients and their insurance and risk management needs. He is well regarded in the market and I am delighted that he will be leading Marsh Australia from 2015.”

Both Clayton and Leney will report to Martin South, CEO of Asia-Pacific for the company, who said of the changes:  “John has led the Australian business over the last five years, and has been instrumental in developing strategies and leading operational programs to keep Marsh at the forefront of the broking industry in the Pacific Region. He was the architect of Marsh’s SME growth strategy in Australia having set up Marsh Advantage about a dozen years ago and he established Marsh Australia’s original product and placement distribution platform.

“SMEs represent a significant growth opportunity for Marsh throughout Asia and we are fortunate to have John’s expertise within Marsh while providing the opportunity to Scott to run the Australian operation.”

Tarabaras, who will continue to be based in Melbourne, will focus on strengthening the “company’s core business capabilities, and bringing best practice and consistency to the delivery of solutions for risk management and middle market clients,” according to a company spokesperson.

“George is a proven leader whose track record of success in the insurance industry spans more than three decades. He originally joined Marsh in 1982, most recently serving as the leader of the company’s Corporate Southern practice.
