Global law firm Clyde & Co has welcomed David Kerwin as a new partner in its national insurance group in Brisbane.

Kerwin is an experienced litigator who is widely recognised for his technical skills, commerciality, and practical approach. He is the incumbent President of the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Professional Indemnity Group (APIG) and has served on the committee in various roles for many years.

Moreover, Kerwin has expertise in handling complex matters involving property risks, financial lines, D&O liability, professional indemnity, policy coverage, and defence health/life insurance lines. He also offers deep insight into and practical experience of the London markets, gained in part from working in the UK for five years with Clyde & Co and continuing to service London Market clients and Lloyd's syndicates. He also acts for international and domestic composite insurers.

In his new role, Kerwin is expected to add depth to Clyde & Co's property and business interruption offering and be key in executing the firm's commitment to the SME market.

Joining from Barry.Nilsson, Kerwin brings to Clyde & Co an experienced team, including special counsels Stefanie Luhrs and Ewa Cholinska, senior associate Simone Shepherd, and associates Patrick Johnson and Mitchell Page.

They will all join a strong and vibrant Brisbane partnership comprising Jacinta Long, Maxine Tills, and Matthew Pokarier – each experienced and highly regarded operators in the insurance market.

Commenting on the appointment of a new partner, Lucinda Lyons, partner and the head of insurance in Australia at Clyde & Co, said: “David is a strong addition to our team in Brisbane and is well-known to us having spent his formative years here.

“David's property expertise adds further strength to the support we can offer clients as they continue to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and prepare for its longer-term implications.”

Kerwin commented: “Having been part of the Clyde & Co team earlier in my career, I am well aware of the firm's leadership position in Brisbane and the broader Australian insurance market and the benefits of a truly global platform. Returning to the firm will take my practice to the next level.”
