The Hon. John Middleton AM KC – a former Justice of the Federal Court of Australia for 16 years – will join the global law firm DLA Piper as a senior advisor.
The Hon. John Middleton (pictured) served as the president of the Australian Competition Tribunal for the past six years. He was a former part-time commissioner of the Australian Law Reform Commission and has sat on several boards, including being a member of the Council of the University of Melbourne. He is also a fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.
Earlier in his career, Middleton served as an associate to Sir Ninian Stephen. He later practised as a barrister, predominantly in constitutional and administrative law, resources law, and commercial law.
Middleton, who retired from the bench in December 2022, will join DLA Piper in March. He will be based in the firm's Melbourne office, advising large public and private sector clients on investigations, class actions, and inquiries.

DLA Piper also recently announced the appointment of a tax insurance specialist as a new partner for the firm's taxation practice.
