After officially changing its name from Capsicum Re to Gallagher Re at the turn of the month, the reinsurance arm of the brokerage giant is keen to keep up the momentum with a key hire.

The company has brought in Ian Kerton from Guy Carpenter, to take the role of partner from April next year.

Kerton will add to the firm’s motor and casualty division, having established himself as a well-known name in the sector. He has been in the treaty reinsurance market for 27 years and had led the UK property and casualty team from 2013. Before spending a decade with Guy Carpenter he enjoyed a stint with HSBC Insurance Brokers’ reinsurance business and held responsibility for its business in Asia, as well as in the UK.

“Hiring the best broking and leadership talent – individuals who put client advocacy above all else – sits at the heart of our growth strategy and Ian will be another superb addition to the business,” said Gallagher Re CEO Rupert Swallow. “On the production side, the strength and breadth of his UK motor relationships are highly complementary to our team’s existing client base, which will make for a powerful and accretive combination. We are absolutely delighted that Ian has chosen to join Gallagher Re at this exciting and dynamic juncture in our growth story.”
