Gallagher’s Adelaide team has donated 124 hours of voluntary work to support Backpacks 4 SA Kids, a charity that provides goodies-filled backpacks to children placed in the emergency care system, as part of the global firm’s 90th anniversary celebrations.

Twenty-six Gallagher employees joined the production line at Backpacks 4 SA Kids’ Para Hills West headquarters for a day to help fill the backpacks with clothes, toys, and personal supplies, to help the organisation reach its goal of distributing 600 backpacks between October and Christmas.

“It was a great day and staff got so much out of this charity personally, but this is just the beginning,” Gallagher’s Melanie Strangar said. “We have now seen where the gaps are with items that need to go into these backpacks, and the shortage was for girls and boys from the ages of 10 to 18.”

To address this shortfall, the team decided to donate a gift to support the charity’s cause, instead of staging Kris Kringle at the office. Several staff, including Strangar, will also donate more of their time to the charity in the build up to Christmas.

“Some of these kids have never had anything new, so when they receive these backpacks with all the things they need it’s giving them something really meaningful,” Strangar said.
