Insurance Australia Group (IAG) has appointed Adam Balarin as the new executive general manager (EGM) for insurance supply chain at its largest division, Direct Insurance Australia (DIA).

Balarin joins IAG from Genpact, where he served as the vice president, operations, responsible for leading and growing its consumer goods, retail, life sciences, and healthcare business. Before his role at Genpact, he spent two decades leading Unilever's supply chain operations across the globe. Including Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, the UK, and South Africa.

In his new role, Balarin will develop and execute IAG's transformation of its insurance supply chain to deliver a better claims experience to customers across Australia. He is also expected to drive alignment among the group, its strategic partners, and external industry stakeholders across the automotive and home repair industries.

DIA, which holds the largest share in direct personal insurance in Australia. For the 12 months ended December 31, 2021 (FY21), DIA’s customers jumped by around 1.2% to approximately 4.8 million, and the firm provided around 8.6 million insurance policies.

IAG group executive for DIA, Julie Batch, said the latest hire reflects the group's strategy and ambition to help Australians through high-calibre people.

“[Balarin's] knowledge and experience will ensure we deliver additional value through our supply chain and adjacencies, both of which are critical to our growth ambitions,” Batch added.

Balarin will officially join IAG on April 11, 2022, marking the completion of the DIA leadership team.
