Suncorp’s GIO has strengthened its workers compensation portfolio with the appointment of Robert Moffat as executive manager, WA/NT Workers compensation claims.

Moffat joins GIO from Allianz Australia, where he has worked since 2001, most recently serving as the manager of the company’s WA workers compensation business unit from May 2010. From 2002-2004, he held the equivalent position in Allianz’s NT workers compensation business unit.

He has more than 20 years’ experience in claims, account management and underwriting roles to the Workers Compensation team, including 10 years’ experience in management-level roles.

Moffat will start in the role in July. David Hutton, who has been acting executive manager, WA/NT workers compensation claims for the past few months, will return to Newcastle in his previous role as senior leader, NSW managed funds tail claims after a brief handover.

“Robert’s appointment is part of our ongoing strategy to build a national approach across the workers compensation portfolio,” said Paul Smeaton, executive general manager, GIO statutory claims.

“Robert brings a holistic set of skills, strong existing relationships within the WA and NT markets, and years of experience in people management. He will help the WA and NT teams make great steps forward in the pursuit of a leading position in both schemes,” he added.
