Zurich has promoted Darryl Martin to the position of senior fleet underwriter – mining & construction in Queensland (QLD) as part of commitment to identifying and promoting talent internally.

Martin was senior motor underwriter in Perth. He joined Zurich in September 2011. During this time, he has developed strategic relationships with Zurich’s key broker partners and internal stakeholders. Prior to this role, Martin was a fleet underwriter with Vero both in WA & QLD.

Martin will be working closely with underwriting manager Paul Navarrete, QLD state manager, Hugh Eastern and Zurich Risk Engineering in QLD. He will also continue to work with Gavin Hart, national mining & construction manager – motor, to replicate the success experienced in the WA market and ensure Zurich’s approach to pricing and risk selection is appropriate to the QLD risk profile.

“Darryl is a highly experienced and technical market facing underwriter and will be focusing his expertise on our Mobile Plant & Equipment (MPE) mining business in QLD,” Hart said. “In his new role he will play an integral part of the QLD Motor Fleet Underwriting team by further growing the book in the global corporate market sector.”

Martin said he could not have re-entered the QLD motor fleet market at a better time.

“The market has become more challenging and competitive. This means we have to focus on the strength of our relationships with brokers while finding solutions that meet every need of our customers.”

“Our business is well-placed to meet the QLD market demands and I’m looking forward to helping to drive our motor fleet team to achieve the best insurance outcomes.”
