ASX-listed Johns Lyng Group (JLG), an integrated building services group whose clients include QBE, CGU, and Suncorp, has welcomed a new board member.

Robert Kelly, co-founder of Steadfast Group, has been appointed non-executive director, effective Dec. 1. Kelly brings more than 45 years of insurance experience to the role.

JLG Chairman Peter Nash said the insurance veteran – who Insurance News named as one of the most influential people in the Australian general insurance industry, and whose awards include the 2014 ACORD Rainmaker Award, NIBA's Lex McKeown trophy in 2016, and the 2017 best CEO award for an S&P ASX 101-200 financials company – will complement the current board's skills and expertise.

“Robert is a terrific appointment for JLG who’ll add a great deal of substance to the capacity of the board,” Nash said. “He will sit alongside current JLG Director Paul Dwyer, who is group managing director of the ASX-listed PSC Insurance Group. Having only recently listed on the ASX ourselves, it is important that we have engaged directors who not only understand the insurance industry and business generally, but can navigate the challenges of the listed-company space.”

Kelly is a qualified practising insurance broker, an NIBA fellow, an ANZIIF senior associate, and a certified insurance professional and graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also a director in the boards of Kids Xpress and the Steadfast Foundation.

JLG listed on the ASX Oct. 26 last year.
