International insurer Beazley has announced a new member of its Australian accident and health team.

David Platt will join the insurer as an underwriter in the key element of its Australian business.

Platt has nearly two decades experience in the insurance industry and recently headed up accident and health operations at Zurich having spent a further 14 years with ACE as accident and health underwriting manager for Australia and New Zealand.

Beazley said in a statement that Platt’s “extensive knowledge and experience in broker facing roles,” was key to the hiring as Suzie White, head of Beazley’s accident and health business in Australia, said that the appointment of such an experience industry professional can only benefit the business.

"We are delighted to have attracted an underwriter of David’s calibre to help develop our accident and health business. He has extensive underwriting expertise, an excellent profile in the market and strong relationships with brokers across Australia.”

Platt noted that he is excited to join a company that he believes fills an important gap in the Australian market.

“I am excited to be joining a growing team that is filling an important gap in the Australian market by tailoring products to the end-customers’ needs,” Platt said.

“With increased competition, differentiation through specialist offerings will become increasingly important.”
