Australian law firm Meridian Lawyers (Meridian) has teamed up with Singapore-based law firm Donaldson & Burkinshaw LLP (D & B), effective September 1, 2023.

Established in 1874, D & B is one of Singapore’s oldest law partnerships. It provides legal services to healthcare, commercial, corporate, financial, insurance, industrial, and public sector clients across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

Strategic alliance

The strategic alliance between Meridian and D & B is expected to boost both firms’ insurance and commercial legal services.

The deal saw the firms combine their expertise and resources to enhance cross-border cooperation and support the mutual interests of clients in Australia and Singapore.

Meridian managing director Paul Baker said D & B’s expertise in insurance, health law, intellectual property, disputes, corporate and commercial, and real estate legal services and its outstanding service to clients will help Meridian provide further specialist support to its clients in the APAC region.

“We are thrilled to be affiliated with a firm of D & B’s heritage and profile in the Asia-Pacific region,” Baker said.

Eric Tin, senior partner at D & B, commented: “My partners and I are deeply honoured and privileged to be able to build strong ties with Meridian Lawyers – a leading and rapidly growing firm with an impressive track record. This strategic alliance will benefit our Asia-Pacific clients who need high-quality legal services for their investments and business in Australia. We also look forward to the sharing of knowledge and best practices that come with this alliance.”

Meridian and D & B will continue to operate independently. However, the alliance will enable both firms to collaborate on certain matters and pursue strategic opportunities together.

Meridian recently expanded its insurance team through the addition of a new principal.
