Industry professionals searching for the perfect Christmas gift are in luck – NRMA Insurance just launched an innovative board game designed to help Australian families understand the importance of having insurance.

The gameplay of “HELP! The Game” involves players using character tokens to collect assets as they move across a map of Australia. The characters represent a broad cross-section of Australians, and include working mom Amy, tech worker Ammar, and yoga-buff James.

Players win by protecting their assets from a series of real-life risks they encounter along their journey – including floods, fires, tremors, and tornados. The game has over 50 life change and disaster cards, with many featuring Australia-specific risk scenarios.

“We’re always looking at new and innovative ways to help Australians understand risk and the value of insurance,” Zara Curtis, director of content and customer engagement at NRMA Insurance, told Campaign Brief.  “What better way to capture the attention of Australian families this Christmas than by creating something that helps bring insurance to life in a fun and engaging way? Interpreting the rules of a board game always creates debate around the table, so it’s exciting to be breaking category norms and consumer expectations with the launch of HELP! The Game”

The game is now available online and in Kmart stores, with a portion of proceeds going towards supporting disaster relief and recovery through the Australian Red Cross.
