Motoring group and insurer RACQ has revealed Gold Coast’s worst suburbs for insurance claims resulting from traffic crashes.

RACQ’s claims data from the past three years showed drivers were most likely to have a crash in Southport, with 748 claims. This was followed by Robina (393), Helensvale (306), Ashmore (248), and Oxenford (230). Also making it on the top 10 list were Surfers Paradise (213), Broadbeach (209), Burleigh Heads (202), Carrara (184), and Labrador (183).

RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said these 10 suburbs alone made up nearly 3,000 claims in the region as she noted that “most crashes are caused by driver error, so it’s really important that drivers are taking care at all times.”

To reduce the likelihood of a crash, Ross said drivers should remember to take their time, give way correctly, watch for traffic signals and signs, and keep a safe following distance.

For those who experienced a crash, Ross advised them to remain calm, exchange all details with the other driver, take plenty of photos, and contact their insurer as soon as possible.
