Suncorp is urging all weather-affected customers in New South Wales to contact them as soon as possible to lodge their claims, after the biggest storm in decades lashed Sydney and surrounding cities on Wednesday.

The severe thunderstorm brought more than a month’s worth of rain in just two hours across Sydney, cancelling flights, flooding streets and railway lines, and cutting power to hundreds of households.

Nadia Farha, Suncorp spokesperson, said the insurance giant, whose network of brands include GIO, AAMI, Apia, Vero, Bingle, Resilium, and CIL, is ready to deploy its assessors to help residents.

“People who have been affected by the torrential rain and strong winds shouldn’t wait to lodge their claim,” Farha said. “Letting us know now will mean we can start the claim process immediately to ensure the quickest possible path to recovery.”

Customers in need of emergency make-safe repairs to prevent further damage can also contact the insurer.

Suncorp customers can lodge their claim by calling 13 25 24 or through the insurer’s website. AAMI customers can contact 13 22 44, while policyholders for GIO and APIA can contact 13 14 46 and 13 50 50, respectively.
