Swiss Re has announced a new appointment to its direct commercial insurance arm Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

Andrew Meehan will assume the role of senior underwriter for casualty, Australia and New Zealand, at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, and will report to Jeremy Scott-Mackenzie, head casualty and FinPro, Australia and New Zealand, effective Oct. 3.

In this role, Meehan, who has more than 20 years of underwriting and broking experience, will be responsible for contributing to the firm's overall casualty growth strategy and increasing offerings to new and existing clients. He will be based in Australia and will be a key underwriter for the casualty book of business for corporate solutions.

A business (insurance) graduate and a senior associate with ANZIIF, Meehan will join Swiss Re Corporate Solutions from Liberty International Underwriters, where he has served as senior underwriter since 2009. During his time with Liberty, he managed a team of underwriters and wrote for a wide range of casualty risks, specialising in both annually renewable and project-specific liability policies.

"The knowledge and expertise that Andrew brings to Swiss Re Corporate Solutions will be an asset to the team,” Scott-Mackenzie said. “This is the latest in a series of appointments that Corporate Solutions has made to strengthen our presence in the region. Andrew's knowledge of the market and know-how will be invaluable as we continue to develop innovative solutions for clients."

Meehan's appointment follows the launch of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' new commercial insurance product suite for FinPro and casualty business consisting of 11 products.
