Suncorp Group is actively addressing the aftermath of widespread flash flooding across South East Queensland.

Alli Smith, executive general manager of home claims customers at Suncorp, affirmed that the insurer is engaged in supporting affected customers as the cleanup efforts commence.

We are able to begin assessments, and our assessors will be out and about on the ground this week, including in the hardest hit areas like Brisbane's north,” she said.

Smith emphasised the proactive approach of Suncorp's claims teams, conducting welfare calls and disseminating information through emails and SMS to guide impacted customers. The claims contact centres remain operational 24/7 to ensure continuous support.

Recovery support

To expedite the recovery process, Suncorp advised customers to initiate contact with their insurer as soon as it is safe to do so. Online claim submissions for various brands – including Suncorp Insurance, AAMI, Apia, and Shannons – are facilitated without the need for a policy copy, as all details are readily available.

Upon filing a claim, Suncorp's team is equipped to arrange temporary accommodation, provide emergency payments, and assist in coordinating emergency repairs.

“If you have damaged goods or contents, make a list, and take photos of them,” Smith said. “Keep a record of model or serial numbers of items you are throwing away to help replace them, keep your home as ventilated as possible, and remove wet contents including carpets and curtains – but remember to take lots of photos.

“It's been a relentless few months of severe weather particularly in Queensland with two cyclones, dangerous storms, and flash flooding, but I want to assure our customers that no matter where disaster strikes, we will be there to support them through it.”
