HCF Life-backed Flip Insurance, known for its on-demand accidental injury coverage in Australia, has introduced Flip Roaming to cater to the evolving needs of Australian travellers.

The extension of the insurance model is tailored for Australians exploring international destinations.

International cover for accidental injury

Flip Roaming offers accidental injury coverage for almost every overseas adventure and sport at a flat rate of £80 per week. This comprehensive coverage is accessible to Australians journeying through Japan, Canada, Indonesia, Fiji, the UK, European Union countries, Switzerland, and Norway.

This development aligns with the renewed interest in international travel post-pandemic, supported by research indicating a notable percentage of Australian travellers, especially those under 30, contemplating trips abroad without the safeguard of suitable travel insurance.

“Too many Aussies face the decision of risking travelling without adequate insurance cover or being forced to pay a costly sports and adventure premium. We know our customers have been eager to have the protection of Flip when overseas, and we're proud to now provide an affordable option with flexibility. We have your back whether you're hitting up the slopes in Japan, swimming in the fjords of Norway, or trail running in the Swiss Alps,” said Flip Insurance head of growth Zac Hancock.

Claims process

In the event of an accidental injury, Flip Roaming customers can swiftly and easily file claims online or through the app.

Notably, 48% of eligible claims across all of Flip's products are processed on the same day. Coverage includes up to £20,000 for overseas medical expenses and an additional recovery cash benefit of up to £50,000, depending on the injury's severity.

The recovery cash, disbursed directly into the customer's bank account, serves to offset unforeseen costs like out-of-pocket expenses for specialist appointments, out-of-hospital medical supplies, as well as ancillary expenses such as food delivery or additional transportation arrangements.

Distinguishing itself from conventional travel insurance structures, Flip Roaming eliminates the need to secure coverage before departure. Travellers engaging in adventure activities overseas can activate coverage in minutes. For those who prefer planning ahead, coverage can be scheduled up to 12 months in advance, with full refund options available for changes made before activation.

“Covering any Aussie aged 5 to 64, whether you're out on your own adventure, watching your older children take their first leap into solo travel, or treating your whole family to a trip away, Flip Roaming is designed to give you peace of mind and proper protection against accidental injuries when doing the things you love,” Hancock said.

Last month, Flip Insurance launched a new group insurance offering designed for sports, adventure, and wellness businesses.
