nib has appointed Dylan Alcott as its new brand ambassador and chief motivation officer.

Alcott is a disability advocate, two sport Paralympian, Australian of the Year, “golden slam” Quad Wheelchair tennis champion, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and author.

Under the dual role, Alcott will work as a motivator, advocate, adviser, and promoter for nib's health and travel businesses and its National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) business, nib Thrive.

Mark Fitzgibbon, managing director and chief executive officer of nib, deemed Alcott a role model for Australians.

“Dylan Alcott is one of Australia's greatest modern athletes,” Fitzgibbon said. “His career spans 23 grand slam tennis championships across singles and doubles; he is a three-time paralympic gold medallist across two sports, wheelchair basketball, and tennis.

“And since retiring from his tennis career, he has launched a philanthropic organisation to mentor people with disability and remove the barriers to young peoples' participation in sports, training, education, and employment; and co-founded Get Skilled Access and The Field, businesses that focus on supporting people with a disability in the workforce.”

Alcott said that the partnership goes beyond brand awareness – it aims to motivate Australians to focus on their health and wellbeing, enables Alcott to advice on nib's inclusive workplace practices, and advocate for Australians living with disabilities.

“The reason I get out of bed is to change perceptions and to support people with disabilities to live their lives and have choice over their lives. That's why I'm so pumped to be a part of the nib family now, because it is supporting that mission as well – through products and services that support all people in this country to get out there and live healthier, better lives,” he said. “We've got some exciting initiatives in the works that I can't wait to share in the near future; but the good work has already started, with nib advertising over 60 jobs through The Field disability jobs platform already and generously donating a proportion of funds within our commercial agreement to the Dylan Alcott Foundation.”

Partnership launch

nib will kickstart its partnership with Alcott by seeing him join fellow nib ambassador and former football player Paul “The Chief” Harragon, in a video titled “The tale of two Chiefs.”

In the video, Alcott and Harragon meet for the first time and then take a drive together in Alcott's hometown – Melbourne – to discuss their careers and motivation for joining nib.

Harragon said: “It was great to meet Dylan, and [I] welcome him to nib. It's been over 30 years now since I first partnered with nib, back when I was still playing at the Knights, and nib's growth over this time has been tremendous.

“I'm looking forward to working with Dylan and witnessing all the great work that's to come from this partnership. He's a great guy, with big ambitions.”
