Global brokerage giant Gallagher has expanded its presence in regional Victoria by acquiring Edgar Insurance Brokers (EIB).

Established in 1947, EIB provides commercial insurance solutions and services in regional Victoria, focusing on rural and farm, hospitality, transport, and trades.

The deal will see EIB's offices in Cobram and Benalla complement Gallagher's eight offices in Victoria. Director Shannon Edgar and his team will remain in their current location, reporting to Sarah Lyons, head of retail property/casualty brokerage operations for Gallagher in Australia and Asia.

“Shannon Edgar and his team have a terrific future with Gallagher. Industries in the Goulburn Valley such as farming, food production, transport, and Agri-Solar energy strongly align with the expertise Gallagher can offer. Together, we can do an even better job of helping to support and build the local community,” Lyons said.

J. Patrick Gallagher Jr., chairman, president, and CEO of Gallagher, welcomed the EIB team to the global brokerage giant.

“Edgar Insurance Brokers is a third-generation family business with a strong culture whose client relationships and expertise will enhance our capabilities in Australia,” Gallagher Jr said. “I am delighted to welcome Shannon and his associates to our growing, global team.”

The deal with EIB is Gallagher's fifth acquisition in Australia for 2023, with the global brokerage giant expanding in regions across the country, from Perth to Darwin and from the Sunshine Coast to Melbourne.

“Gallagher has a strong track-record of growth in Australia. I'm pleased to say lots of conversations with owners of insurance brokerages have become terrific new merger partnerships. They are choosing to become part of the Gallagher growth story, inspired by ethics, opportunity, entrepreneurialism, and the ability to bring greater capabilities and service to clients,” Lyons said.
