The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has introduced new leadership appointments, naming Scott Leney as president of the board and Brendan Dunne as deputy president.
The appointments were confirmed during the organisation’s annual general meeting (AGM) on May 14 in Sydney.
Leney, who has been involved with ANZIIF for much of his professional career, said he looks forward to contributing to the institute’s strategic development.
“I am honoured to serve as president of ANZIIF, an organisation I have been proudly associated with since the early days of my career – beginning with my Fellowship studies and continuing through to my recent tenure on the board of directors,” he said.
He also acknowledged outgoing president Ben Bessell for his leadership since 2023.
“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our immediate past president, Ben Bessell, for his outstanding leadership and dedicated service as chair since 2023,” Leney said.
Dunne, who joins as deputy president, will support Leney and the board in delivering the organisation’s goals across the region.
“ANZIIF plays a crucial role in championing the collective interests of our industry and delivering contemporary, relevant learning to our members across APAC,” Dunne said. “As we look to the future, I’m excited to work alongside the board, Katrina, and the executive team to uphold and enhance the professionalism of our industry as we navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
ANZIIF CEO Katrina Shanks will continue to lead the operational direction of the organisation.
The AGM also marked the launch of ANZIIF’s Member Connect initiative – a networking platform designed to increase collaboration and engagement across the insurance sector.
Held at 12-Micron in Barangaroo, the event aimed to foster professional connections and discussion among members.
“It’s a space where new conversations can begin, ideas can be shared, and a sense of belonging within the industry can grow,” Shanks said.
The initiative is part of ANZIIF’s broader strategy to improve member value and participation through events and shared learning opportunities.
Looking ahead, ANZIIF will host the 21st Australian Insurance Industry Awards on August 21 at The Star in Sydney.
The event will spotlight a wide range of achievements from across the insurance landscape, including general insurance, life insurance, broking, insurtech, and service delivery.
Shanks noted that the awards provide visibility for efforts that often occur behind the scenes.
“The awards provide a valuable opportunity for individuals and businesses to gain recognition for their contributions to the industry. They encourage us to continue pursuing excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction,” she said.
