Industry stalwart Paul Munton has landed a plum role at Rothbury Insurance Brokers, starting in the New Year.

The former GM Broker Products at Lumley will take up the newly created role within the executive leadership team as EGM – Broking Branches.

He is due to start on 2 February 2015.

His departure from Lumley was announced two weeks ago after he and colleague Toni Ferrier chose not to take alternative roles offered to them at IAG.

Roger Abel, managing director at Rothbury, said Munton’s appointment would be vital for Rothbury’s next phase of growth.

He said: “Paul is widely known and highly respected across the insurance industry.

“He has vast experience and knowledge and has worked extensively across many aspects of the industry from reinsurance to corporate insurance.

“Paul brings a significant amount of expertise to our executive team with almost 30 years in various management and business development roles in broking and underwriting.”

He added: “I look forward to working with Paul as we focus on positioning the Rothbury business for its next phase of growth.”

Munton is the New Zealand representative on the board of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) and chair of ANZIIF’s New Zealand member advisory board.

He worked at Lumley for five years after coming from Aon where he was GM Auckland corporate.

He also held positions at EIG-Ansvar (NZ) and Swiss Re.

Abel recently told Insurance Business of the company’s continued plans for scaling up and how he hoped recent award successes would help build that momentum.
