The Licensed Insurance Brokers Association of Fiji is planning to talk with the Insurance Association of Fiji and the Reserve Bank of Fiji to provide local training and education for insurance industry workers.

The association emphasized that the majority of insurance courses are available overseas – such as in New Zealand and Australia.

Insurance broker Aon (Fiji) Pte associate director Bill Higginson said they would be happy to work with the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) to design a local insurance broking certification programme.

“Why can’t we do it here … using our institution and liaising with an overseas institution so they provide the training capabilities?” Higginson said, even considering having training on a fly-in-fly-out basis or through Zoom conference so that it could be done locally.

The programme would lead to insurance industry workers in Fiji obtaining recognised risk and insurance qualification certificates or diplomas in Fiji, FBC News reported.
