Hume’s Auckland warehouse that was badly damaged by fire last week Thursday is fully insured and represents less than 0.1% of Goodman Property Trust’s (GMT) property portfolio.

Thirteen fire crews responded to the fire overnight at one of the Auckland distribution centres for Fletcher Building’s Humes Pipeline Services, and rail services were diverted between Otahuhu and Britomart due to the risk of the building collapsing over the rail lines.

The fire at the 940 sqm building within Connect Business Park in Penrose was extinguished by fire services during the night. The cause has yet to be established.

“The small warehouse building is fully insured and we are now working with Humes to minimise the interruption to its business operations,” said Goodman CEO John Dakin. “We are also working with Kiwi Rail to address the impacts on neighbouring rail services.”

Humes general manager Becky Lloyd said the company was working to minimise disruption to customers by using nearby Auckland sales centres.
