It’s official – the candidates put forward by the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) nominating committee have been appointed as president and vice president.

Succeeding Richard Turner, who has completed his four-year term as IUMI president, Frédéric Denèfle is supported by vice president Kosuke Hashimoto. The latter isn’t replacing anyone, as the VP post was newly created.

“These are challenging times for the marine insurance industry as we grapple the issues of decarbonisation, economic and geo-political uncertainties, and digital transformation,” said Denèfle, who is the managing director at marine war risks specialist Groupement d’Assurance de Risques EXceptionnels.

“IUMI plays a critical role in representing the sector, and I look forward to building on the work of my predecessors. But no organisation can afford to stand still, and IUMI is currently reflecting on its long-term future under the banner of IUMI 2030, with detailed work already underway.”

Aside from Denèfle and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance marine underwriting general manager Kosuke Hashimoto, other members of the IUMI executive committee for 2022/23 are Stephen Barr, Sean Dalton, Mariella Dauphinee, Tore Forsmo, Anneke Kooiman, and Timothy Lee. They come from France, Japan, the UK, the US, Canada, Norway, the Netherlands, and Hong Kong, respectively.
