Dual New Zealand has appointed leading property underwriter Andrew Beaton to form its new property division.

Coming from the Crombie Lockwood/AJ Gallagher underwriting subsidiary Offshore Market Placements, Beaton has clocked up 20 years in the New Zealand property insurance sector.

Beaton’s immediate objectives will be to consolidate Dual’s existing property business and launch the new offering into the market in conjunction with Dual’s broker partners.

Dual NZ managing director Craig Anderson said Beaton was an excellent choice for the job.

“I am delighted that Andrew has agreed to join Dual and accept the challenge of establishing and leading our property expansion.

“I am confident we have found an extremely high quality underwriter in Andrew to build our local property business.”

Anderson said the expansion had always been part of the company’s strategy and would be complementary to what it already offered.

“It has always been Dual’s intention to move into underwriting a broader range of products locally and property was a key part of this strategy,” he said.

“This will complement our already broad liability product offering and our niche portfolios such as Energy, A&H/Corporate Travel and Cyber.”

As part of this development, underwriting manager Martin Stroud has moved into the role of COO on a full time basis effective immediately.

Beaton will commence with Dual from 19 January 2015.
