Nuku Ora, the team behind the Wellington Round the Bays event, has announced Southern Cross as the event's new naming rights partner.

This multi-year agreement marks a turning point for New Zealand’s third-largest fun run, now in its 46th year. It symbolizes a strengthened commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of Wellingtonians and fostering more active communities.

Southern Cross envisions enabling healthier years for a greater number of New Zealanders. It is also why the company’s support for Round the Bays in both Wellington and Auckland is a natural fit, Southern Cross Healthcare CEO Chris White said.

“We’re inspired by the role that Round the Bays plays in improving the health and wellbeing of communities, and how it brings thousands of people together to have fun while keeping fit,” White said.

Nuku Ora also expressed its gratitude and acknowledged the former naming rights partner, Brendan Foot Supersite, and the Foot family for their support of the Wellington RTB event. The group also confirmed the latter’s continued involvement as the official E-Vehicle sponsor for Round the Bays 2024.

“We are incredibly pleased and excited to be partnering with Southern Cross for our Wellington Round the Bays event. The partnership is a testament to the power of shared values and goals. Both our organisations are passionate about promoting and creating opportunities for individuals and communities to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. By joining forces, we aim to amplify the positive message behind the Southern Cross Round the Bays event about leading a more active, healthy lifestyle,” said Andrew Leslie (pictured rightmost), Nuku Ora CEO.

The event has long held a central place in the Wellington calendar, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate physical activity, unity, and diversity.

Southern Cross Round the Bays will unfold along the Wellington waterfront on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, with registrations commencing on Nov. 3, 2023.

Recently, the insurance firm also highlighted the realities of age that underscore the significance of proper coverage, urging older travellers to get proper travel insurance in place.
