Global insurance group Allianz has announced the appointment of Joos Louwerier as country manager and CEO of Allianz Life Indonesia, and Handojo Kusuma as deputy CEO.

Louwerier, who is currently CEO of Allianz Life Korea, brings 16 years of insurance experience to the role and will be in charge of overseeing the insurer’s growth strategy and have overall management responsibility of all company operations in Indonesia. Prior to joining Allianz in 2013, Louwerier held management roles across Asia at ING, dealing with operations, risk management, marketing, and bancassurance.

He will succeed Joachim Wessling, who is stepping down from the helm of Allianz Life Indonesia to pursue external opportunities.

George Sartorel, Asia-Pacific regional CEO at Allianz, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Joos to Allianz Indonesia. He is an exceptional leader with a proven track record in building brands, driving value and delivering customer-first priorities. I’m confident Joos will lead our team to further success in this dynamic growth market.”

“Joachim has made an important contribution to our achievements in Indonesia in the last seven years, and I wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kusuma, as deputy CEO, will oversee distribution and market management to expand Allianz’s operations in Indonesia.

Both Louwerier and Kusuma will join the board of directors of Allianz Life Indonesia, pending regulatory approval. Wessling will remain with the company in the meantime to ensure a smooth transition process.
