A complex claims examiner at AIG has nabbed an industry scholarship that recognises outstanding contribution of young professionals practicing in professional indemnity and financial lines insurance.

AIG's Mitchell Spurr has been awarded the 2017 Wotton + Kearney/APIG scholarship at the annual APIG gala dinner, earning him the opportunity to attend the Professional Forum Conference to be held at Robinson College, Cambridge University, in July and visit the Lloyd's insurance market in London.

Spurr won against a very competitive pool of more than 20 submissions for his essay on the increasing exposure of directors to potential claims relating to climate change, Wotton + Kearney said in a statement.

David Kearney, chief executive partner at the firm, said Spurr’s submission was of the highest standard.

“We would like to congratulate Mitchell for securing this unique opportunity with his standout paper and are delighted to support this developmental milestone in his career,” he said.

Jeremy Scott-Mackenzie, APIG national president, said the appointed panel had a difficult time choosing the winner due to the increased number and quality of submissions.

“Mitchell is another great ambassador for our industry and we are proud to partner with Wotton + Kearney to recognise such talent,” he said.

Now in its third year, the Wotton + Kearney/APIG scholarship aims to attract talent to the legal insurance industry, and is open to current APIG members under the age of 36 who are actively involved in financial lines insurance.
