APRA unveils latest general insurance statistics

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has released its latest general insurance institutional-level statistics.

The annual report is for general insurers, general insurance groups, and Lloyd’s Australia. The figures revolve around financial performance, position, and capital adequacy.

Full-year results

For the 12 months to December 31, 2022, QBE Insurance Group Limited (QBE) dominated its competitors by reporting a whopping $27,501 million gross earned premium (total business).

QBE was followed by Insurance Australia Group Limited (IAG) with $12,972 million gross earned premium (total business) and Suncorp Insurance Holdings Limited (Suncorp) with $10,872 million (total business).

Half-year results

For the six months to December 31, 2022, QBE reported a $14,918 million gross earned premium (total business).

IAG made it to second place with $6,853 million gross earned premium (total business) and Suncorp, with $5,815 million (total business), was third.

APRA also released its latest insurance claims and disputes statistics covering industry and insurer-level data and the December 2022 statistics on intermediated general insurance.
