Arch Insurance International has appointed Gaurav Sharma (pictured) as chief information officer, effective immediately.

In the role, Sharma will lead the execution of Arch's technology modernisation agenda, ensuring tangible outcomes that support the business's overall strategy and growth ambitions. Based in London, he reports to Ketan Motwani, chief operating officer of Arch Insurance International.

Sharma brings more than 25 years of experience leading technology functions and large-scale transformation. He joins from AXA Health, where he was most recently head of technology, having previously held senior technology roles at RSA Insurance UK, Zurich Insurance and Aspen Re.

A leadership structure built around technology transformation

Ketan Motwani, who Sharma reports to, joined Arch as UK chief operating officer in June 2024 from Aon UK, where he was chief operating officer for commercial risk across global, wholesale and specialty broking, with responsibilities spanning transformation, service delivery, operations and digital platforms.

Motwani said Sharma brings extensive experience across architecture, technology delivery and service management, making him well placed to lead the next phase of Arch's technology strategy, playing a central role in delivering infrastructure modernisation critical to supporting sustainable growth, underwriting excellence, technology resilience and customer experience.

A CIO seat that changed hands recently

This appointment is notable given how recently Arch filled the same position.

In July 2025, Arch named David Maher, who had joined the business in 2024 as international head of delivery, as chief information officer, with Maher reporting to both Motwani and Prashant Nema, Arch Capital Group's deputy chief operating officer. Maher's own background included senior digital and technology roles at Lloyds Banking Group, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Direct Line Group, WTW and UBS.

According to Maher's own LinkedIn profile, his term as Arch's CIO ended in March 2026, roughly eight months after he took up the role, ahead of Sharma's appointment now.

For a specialty insurer positioning technology resilience as core to its growth strategy, that turnover doesn't necessarily signal instability, leadership changes happen for all kinds of ordinary reasons, but it does mean Sharma inherits a modernisation programme that has already had at least one change of direction at the top before he's begun.
