Mike Wilkins, former CEO and managing director of IAG, has made his return to insurance with his appointment as a non-executive director of QBE.

Wilkins led IAG until November 2015 and will join QBE on November 1 2016.

With more than 30 years’ experience in financial services, Wilkins has international experience in India and Europe and is currently a non-executive director of AMP.

Marty Becker, chairman of QBE, said that he was delighted to welcome Wilkins to his new position at QBE and noted that his experience will prove beneficial to the business.

“Mike made an exceptional contribution to the insurance industry in Australia and internationally during his executive career,” Becker said.

“He has a well-earned reputation for strengthening the fundamentals of the businesses that he has led and is highly regarded in the investment and business community.”

Wilkins was replaced in his position at IAG by Peter Harmer, after having led IAG for more than seven years.

Wilkins will be based in Sydney.
