The board of the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has appointed Sharon Ooi as a non-executive director. She is managing director, head of Australia and New Zealand, for Swiss Re, and a member of the Australian Financial Services Council Life Board Committee.

Previously, Ooi was head of property and casualty underwriting, Asia and Australia & New Zealand, Swiss Re. She remains a director and chair of Swiss Re Australia.

The ICA said the appointment reflected its commitment to ensuring the insurance industry was well-placed to respond to and drive the many strategic challenges and opportunities facing the sector, with president Nick Hawkins adding that the board now had a good mix of general and speciality insurers as well the industry’s key reinsurers, providing a range of perspectives on insurance issues.

“We look forward to drawing on Sharon’s broad knowledge of reinsurance and financial services as well as her regulatory experience in Singapore,” Hawkins said.
