icare has appointed social policy leader and disability advocate John Walsh AM and seasoned financial services leader Michael Cameron as new members of its board to help lead the insurer into its next growth phase.

Walsh brings to icare valued experience in funding across the accident compensation, health, and disability sectors as a former PwC senior partner and actuary to multiple workers’ compensation schemes, including WorkCover. He was an Australian Actuary of the Year and was instrumental in setting up the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme.

As a disability advocate, Walsh has an “impeccable history” of leading and supporting the development of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). He recently retired from the NDIS board after serving on the board since its establishment in 2013.

Meanwhile, Cameron has held several financial services leadership roles over the years, most recently as chief executive officer and managing director of Suncorp Group. He also has significant experience across listed, government, and not-for-profit boards.

icare chair John Robertson commented: “Both John and Michael bring a wealth of experience to the icare board with strong financial acumen and a history of service to others, particularly in the disability sector.

“Together, these new appointments will help lead icare into its next phase as we work to rebuild trust, ensure injured workers receive the support they need, and support the long-term financial stability of our insurance schemes.”
