Global broker Lockton Australia has committed its support for life-saving research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research by sponsoring the 2018 MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer, WA’s largest cycling fundraiser event.

The two-day event will be held on Oct. 13 to 14 and will see Andrew Wait, chief operating officer for Lockton Australia take part in the 200-km ride for the first time along with Gerry Favory, national manager of mining, who will be riding for the third time.

“We have already kicked things off with a special dollar match day, in which Lockton matched funds donated up to a value of $20,000,” Wait said. “This was an astounding success and we are delighted to have had a hand in raising $53,450 in the first four minutes of the event! We are looking forward to more fundraising in the lead up to the ride and will also be sponsoring various initiatives that will benefit riders on the day.”

“We intend for this to be the first of many community initiatives that I hope will make a difference and encourage our clients and partners to support the Ride to Conquer Cancer and the wonderful work that the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research do,” said Paul Marsden, CEO.

Lockton noted that cancer is the second leading cause of Australian deaths and is costing the nation $3.8bn a year in direct health system costs.
