Mark Lingafelter started his career in a “very, very small corner of the insurance industry in Dallas, Texas”. Now, after an exciting career that has led him from one continent to another, Lingafelter is president of Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) in Australasia.

In an Insurance Business Talk (IB Talk) podcast, which you can listen to here, US-native Lingafelter chatted to Insurance Business managing editor Paul Lucas about his journey in the insurance industry.

“I worked [as an underwriting trainee] for a relatively short period and was then given an opportunity after a couple of years … [when] things were going okay to take another role, with the expectation [to] move from home and one state to another,” he said during the IB Talk podcast. “I started in Dallas and ended up working in Oklahoma, and then Philadelphia, ultimately taking on bigger roles and responsibilities.”

Lingafelter's responsibilities eventually moved from one country to another, and he took on several major roles, such as chief underwriting officer for QBE's Asia-Pacific operations and managing director for Chubb Australia. He now boasts more than 30 years of experience in the global insurance industry.

You can find out more about how Lingafelter led major insurance companies in different regions over the years, including how he helped his current team thrive despite the COVID-19 pandemic, by listening to the podcast here: “President on leading insurance across continents.”
