Meridian Lawyers has appointed cyber law and IT liability expert Matthew Pokarier as a principal for its national insurance team.

Pokarier has over 25 years of experience providing legal services to the insurance industry, focusing on professional indemnity and directors & officers insurance. Over the years, he has developed a strong practice in cyber law and IT liability and advised clients on cybersecurity, handling responses to cyber breaches, developing privacy and data management policies, and cyber insurance.

“It's an exciting time to be joining Meridian, a firm known for its reputation in delivering excellence to the insurance industry, and one which is experiencing dynamic growth. I am looking forward to being a part of the principal group and the broader insurance team and leveraging their strengths and sector expertise to advise clients across a broad spectrum of insurance services and to bolster the cyber law offering,” Pokarier said.

Meridian Lawyers insurance team expansion

Meridian Lawyers managing partner Paul Baker welcomed Pokarier to the firm's national insurance team.

“I am delighted that Matthew has joined our business. As one of Australia's most highly respected lawyers in cyber law and professional indemnity insurance claims, we are thrilled that he has transitioned his practice to Meridian. Matthew's experience perfectly complements our existing insurance offering, and the depth of his knowledge and experience in cyber law will further expand to the offer we provide our clients. We warmly welcome him to the team,” he said.

Pokarier joined the Meridian Lawyers Brisbane office. His appointment brings the number of hires to the firm to over 110 this year.

Reflecting on the firm's growth plans, Baker said: “Our continued growth and expanded footprint have attracted market-leading lawyers, like Matthew, in their chosen areas of practice to our business. We are continuing to build our capacity at the senior level as well as attracting high calibre support staff. We have also been able to promote from within and maintain our focus on our enviable culture. The market is taking note, and we are excited to continue on our growth journey and expand the expertise and services we provide to our clients.”

This month, Meridian Lawyers launched a new office on Barton in Canberra.
