The Underwriting Agencies Council (UAC) has closed nominations for the latest board elections, with seven underwriting agency senior executives vying for four vacancies.

Michael Edmonds, executive general manager commercial at NTI and the current UAC deputy chair, seeks re-election. Anthony Porter (national business development manager at AFA Insurance) and Jeanene Hill (head of coverholder and delegated authority Asia Pacific at Canopius Group) also seek to remain on the board.

Other nominees are:

  • Raj Nanra, CEO of SLE Worldwide Australia and Pacific Underwriting
  • Troy Filipcevic, CEO and founder of Emergence Insurance
  • Tesh Patel, managing director of Delta Insurance Australia
  • Simon Ascroft, head of market management at Argyle Insurance

The incoming directors will each serve for two years.

UAC board elections

As part of the elections, a senior executive from each financial UAC member agency can fill a ballot for each vacancy on their agency's behalf.

The UAC has already distributed the voting papers to UAC member agencies, and it will announce the results at its annual general meeting on Dec. 7. The meeting will start at 11am at Gills Delaney Lawyers offices in Sydney.

Four current directors – Heath Amber (UAC chair and Austbrokers partner development director), Emily Walker (company secretary and head of strata and development at Axis Underwriting Services), Simon Lightbody (finance director and Rhodian Group CEO), and Colin Fagen (CEO at Blue Zebra Insurance) – are not required to stand for re-election in 2023.

Meanwhile, Kurt Nilsen – retiring UAC director, the managing director of Lion Underwriting, and a former UAC chair for three years – will not seek re-election after 10 years on the board.

Commenting on Nilsen's departure, Jenny Bax, UAC's first-ever CEO, said: “He has devoted significant time and energy to UAC while concurrently building a successful agency. We thank him for his sterling efforts.”
