Zurich has appointed Tim Scott-Young as the new chief claims officer (CCO) within its general insurance business in Australia and New Zealand, effective on May 17, 2021.

Scott-Young brings to Zurich extensive international experience in managing large complex claims. He started his insurance career at AIG, where he worked for 21 years, developing his experience in claims before becoming the senior vice president and CCO for the MEA region (Middle East, Africa, Russia, Turkey, and India) based in Dubai.

He is currently the senior vice president and Australian claims operations manager at Marsh Pty Limited. He also held senior regional claims roles at Chubb Limited, including senior vice president and claims director for Asia-Pacific and claims director for Continental Europe.

Commenting on the appointment, Tim Plant, chief executive officer for general insurance (Australia and New Zealand), said: “We are delighted to have someone of Tim's calibre join our general insurance business, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to delivering a world-class claims experience for customers.

“His broad international claims background will bring a new depth to the claims service and experience we offer customers across a wide spectrum of product lines.”

The appointment comes as Hilary Bates, the current CCO, transitions into a new role as chief operations officer for Zurich's Australian life and investments (L&I) business.

“Hilary has created a strong legacy in the delivery of customer-led claims experiences at Zurich, and Tim's international experience will be critical in further developing this as we continue to adapt and respond to changing customer needs,” Plant said.
