Since entering the market five years ago, Emergence Insurance has steadily built up a client base of satisfied brokers and now, the agency’s MD says it’s well and truly shed its newcomer status.

“We’re no longer the new kid on the block, we’re a market leader, and that puts brokers’ minds at ease,” said Troy Filipcevic, founder and MD of Emergence Insurance.

Filipcevic’s comments come after Emergence claimed the gold medal in the 2019 Brokers on Underwriting Agencies survey, published by Insurance Business.

“We’re being rewarded for doing just one thing and doing it well,” said Filipcevic. “We’ve got best-in-class wording, stable pricing, and a team of people who understand the nuances of the product and the risks we’re underwriting – once you package that together, it’s a great proposition.”

The survey, which collated responses from hundreds of brokers across Australia, also saw Emergence’s Cyber Event Protection policy identified as favourite in the entire market.

“Very good policy wording, excellent online system and cyber response team,” raved one respondent.

Commenting on what else sets Emergence apart in an increasingly competitive field, Filipcevic pointed to the agency’s significant investment in broker education.

“We’re helping brokers build a toolkit, so they are well equipped to have cyber risk conversations with clients,” he said, noting that the company’s webinars regularly attract more than 1,000 attendees.

“Brokers can struggle to convince clients of cyber cover’s value to their organisations but, if we assist them to understand why the cover is essential, they can demonstrate competent knowledge in client discussions,” he told Insurance Business.

It’s an effort which hasn’t gone unnoticed by brokers and several commented on the education initiatives offered by Emergence in the recent Brokers on Underwriters survey.

“They are providing some well-informed training webinars to help us know more about this line of business,” commented one broker, while another said Emergence had “gone out of its way” to explain both the covers and any possible client increases.

Filipcevic himself has also been recognised for his efforts and was included in the inaugural Insurance Business Global 100 – a list of the most influential industry figures across six international markets.

“To make the list and see some of the bios of the people not only in Australia, but globally is humbling and certainly a career highlight,” Filipcevic told Insurance Business.

“I see this as more of a recognition for the Emergence team then for me personally,” he continued. “What the team has achieved in a short period of time is astounding.”
