Just months ago no-one would have thought the professional world would look the way it does now – office spaces left lifeless as entire teams are sent home to work remotely.

At Berkley Insurance Australia (BIA), while the company values people and relationships, the general insurer knew it had to adapt accordingly and has taken steps to change the way it does business. These include automating general liability quotes with the help of the SCTP virtual underwriter (SVU).

“BIA supports the evolving needs of our brokers and wants them to be in the best position to succeed, even during these difficult times,” asserted the W. R. Berkley firm. “Having the ability to produce automated quotes for general liability is an extension of our service standard and commitment to constantly improve capabilities.”

One executive enjoying the benefits of automation is Cambridge Insurance Brokers senior account executive Kristy Teh, who is currently self-isolating in Perth.

“Before Berkley Insurance Australia was on SVU for general liability we did a lot of manual requests and I found that really time-consuming and I don’t want to waste an underwriter’s time just to get another option for my clients; we are all busy and time is valuable,” recalled Teh, who shared that her work-from-home situation is working out very well.

The senior account executive noted: “Berkley Insurance Australia’s underwriters have always been fantastic with turnaround times and have always been our preferred insurer. But sometimes I am looking for that quick alternative to ensure I am getting enough options for my client.”

Referring to the automated system, Teh said “it just makes your life easy; everything is there at the click of a button,” adding that she has had a 95% success rate of getting instant quotes with a small percentage having to refer.

According to BIA, the platform generates a quote and documentation in roughly 30 seconds. The company, however, offered assurances that it remains committed to servicing brokers with a local underwriting and claims team who are always available to advise on any policy.
