AIA New Zealand has appointed Alex Kühnast (pictured) as its chief product and strategy officer, introducing a new role to the company’s leadership structure.

AIA NZ CEO Nick Stanhope highlighted Kühnast’s international experience and alignment with the company’s focus on health and wellbeing.

“Alex’s appointment is exciting for us. He is a natural fit at AIA NZ with his passion for health and wellbeing, and he has a wealth of international experience, having lived and worked in his home country of South Africa, the Netherlands, [the] United Kingdom, and of course now New Zealand,” he said.

Who is Alex Kühnast?

Kühnast’s previous role was as principal – head of insurance consulting and actuarial services at KPMG New Zealand, following a transition from KPMG South Africa. His past leadership roles include:

  • executive positions at Different Life
  • CEO of KGA Life in South Africa
  • senior roles at Aegon, KPMG Netherlands, and Hollard Insurance

Kühnast is a fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and the New Zealand Society of Actuaries. He also holds a management certification from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.

Responsibilities of AIA NZ chief product & strategy officer

In his new role, Kühnast will oversee product, pricing, investments, and strategy at AIA NZ.

“My family and I, including our two young daughters, are excited for our new chapter as part of the AIA NZ whānau,” he said. “I can’t wait to play my part in AIA’s vision of helping make New Zealand one of the healthiest and best protected nations in the world.”

AIA NZ recently launched an enhanced version of its AIA Vitality app, with features aimed at enriching the user interface.
