The iconic Party at Kelly Browne’s Place is back for 2018 – with AMI Insurance launching a reboot of the advert on its social media channels on Thursday.

The insurer’s “Kelly Browne” ad campaign, where a girl holds a party while her parents are away, was launched in 1998. AMI said the original advert saw the catchphrase become part of the Kiwi lexicon. Now, the re-launch will include blog articles to help Kiwis avoid a potential Corey Worthington Australian house party situation.

AMI digital engagement manager Matt Pryor explained the idea came together quite quickly. One AMI staff found a copy of the ad on DVD in a cupboard, it was shared around the office as a laugh, and then the team decided to run with it. He noted the remake has been made with love by AMI staff, their family and friends. It was produced in-house with their director Bob Lajes Jr along with AMI crew, talents and editors.

“In 1998, it was word of mouth that made Kelly Browne’s party infamous,” Pryor noted. “Today, it’s social media spreading the word, which could mean your quiet dinner and drinks with friends turns into a public free-for-all.

“We’re really excited to see how this plays out.

“The remake allows us to create new memories and that’s what summer is all about,” he added.
