AMP New Zealand has turned to collision repair network Small to Medium Accident Repair Technology’s (S.M.A.R.T) workshops for its car insurance customers, with the aim of helping them back on the road faster this summer.

The S.M.A.R.T workshops, which use proprietary technology and smarter systems, offer to speed up the whole repair process for low to medium collision damage – typically taking days rather than weeks. They also offer a guaranteed courtesy car, so customers will not be without the use of a vehicle at any time during the repair process. The service is available in three repair centres in Auckland’s Albany and Penrose, and Hornby in Christchurch.

Vehicle insurance claims are on the rise, and this has put pressure on motor repairers and in some cases has impacted waiting times for panel beating, according to AMP head of general insurance Rob Dibley.

“We believe S.M.A.R.T repairs will significantly decrease turnaround times for our customers with small and medium repair jobs,” he said.

AMP mentioned the case of Auckland resident Brent Jameson, who was one of the first AMP customers to use the new S.M.A.R.T workshops after a road accident in 2018.

“We dropped the car off at the S.M.A.R.T workshop and were blown away when we got a call two days later to come and pick it up,” Jameson noted. “Given the damage, we thought we were going to be without a car for at least a week, if not longer.”

As part of AMP’s claims process, customers will be informed on how to access S.M.A.R.T provided they fit the criteria for repairs.
