The Financial Dispute Resolution Service (FDRS) has appointed Trevor Slater (pictured) as a consumer representative at its Advisory Council, which provides guidance and support.

Slater has an extensive background in financial services, and previously served as a client director at FDRS. He is currently the general manager of Resolution Institute, a dispute resolution membership body across Australia and New Zealand.

He replaces Bill Bevan, who resigned from the council in August. In his new role, Slater will work alongside another consumer representative, two industry representatives, and an independent chair.

The move was managed by FairWay Resolution Limited, a specialist conflict management and dispute resolution organisation that handles more than 16,000 disputes, reviews, and enquiries annually.

Liz Hogan, head of commercial services at FairWay, welcomed Slater to the team, saying: “Trevor is well known to us here at the Financial Dispute Resolution Service, having previously led our team.

“We know that Trevor will bring a balanced consumer perspective to the council, as he has a unique understanding of the disputes that financial service providers and their clients may find themselves in. Trevor is well known for his focus on early dispute resolution and we are delighted to continue his connection with the Financial Dispute Resolution Service.”
