Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ) will host a conference at SkyCity in Auckland today that will explore major forces and influences shaping our world and industry.

The conference’s keynote speaker Alastair Newton is an expert on international geo-political issues, and their impact on financial markets, and promises to bring an “insightful overview of the US-China dynamic for the Asia-Pacific and New Zealand (regions) under the Trump administration.”

The morning will focus on volatility and unpredictability – themes that will play out in an in-depth two-hour insurtech session and panel.

The afternoon will focus on how to be resilient in the face of volatility and uncertainty.

The conference will end with a panel of industry leaders including IAG’s Kevin Hughes, QBE’s Bill Donovan, FMG’s Chris Black and Munich Re’s Ralph Ronnenberg. These CEOs will reflect on what they took from the day, and what it means for their organisations and the insurance sector.

Other speakers today include Tony Gallagher, Guy Carpenter CEO Asia Pacific Region, Mitchell Pham, the co-founder and director of both the Augen Software Group and the Kiwi Connection Tech Hub, KPMG’s digital strategy lead Steve Graham, IAG’s Firemark Labs (product incubator) lead Andrew Stead, Nigel Latta, Elizabeth Longworth, Erica Seville, managing director of social enterprise Resilient Organisations , Mike Mendonca, Wellington City Council’s chief resilience officer and Marc Guppy, Allianz New Zealand CEO.

EDIT: ICNZ confirmed this morning that Bill Donovan will not attend the conference today due to illness. Allianz New Zealand CEO Marc Guppy will replace Donovan on the panel this afternoon. We wish Donovan a speedy recovery.
