The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) is calling on Kiwis to nominate their unsung heroes for the Attitude Awards 2018.

Now in its 11th year, the Attitude Awards celebrate excellence in the disability community and achievements of New Zealanders living with disabilities - recognising artists, athletes, employers, young people and game-changers.

ACC returns as principal sponsor of the event and ACC chief executive Scott Pickering said the awards have a special place in the insurer’s heart.

“Every year I’m impressed by the stories of New Zealanders with disabilities achieving amazing things,” Pickering noted. “These awards are a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate just how much Kiwis with disabilities contribute to our society.

“I encourage people to nominate their friends, family and colleagues for an Attitude Award and be part of this wonderful event,” he added.

Last year’s Attitude ACC Supreme Award winner was Geneva Hakaraia-Tino. She’s non-verbal, but she’s an intelligent and driven young woman who has a lot to say. She’s on a crusade to see Te Reo Māori added to computerised communication devices.

This year’s Attitude Awards have eight categories - including Youth Spirit, Emerging Athlete, Sporting Spirit and the Entrepreneur Award. Winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony at Auckland’s Sky City on November 28. They’ll also show the event in a special episode on TVNZ 1.

Do you know a high achiever who’s taking on the world and changing perceptions of disability? Nominate them now. Nominations close on July 20. Finalists will be announced in August.
