A Waikato apiary is awaiting word from its insurance company following a massive fire that destroyed its main factory.

An article by Newshub detailed the case of Bees Inn, a family-owned and run business which supplies honey across New Zealand and for the export market. The business, located on West Rd in Ohaupo, south-west of Hamilton, has been left destroyed after a fire tore through its building on April 04.

“I had no idea, by the time I saw the blaze the fire brigade was here,” Keith West, one of the sons who lives on site, told the publication. “We have to wait for the fire service to do their thing and for the insurance company to do their thing.”

West reportedly said there were around 3,000 boxes of honey ready to be processed inside the factory.

A fire investigator is reportedly looking into the cause.
