The upcoming Financial Services Council (FSC) of New Zealand 2023 conference revealed some of the panels that will be held for its life and health insurance sectors.

Central to both the life and health lines is a session debating genetics, deep-diving into practical issues facing the insurance sectors. Last month, an Auckland geneticist once again shined a light on the topic following a medical journal report that revealed cases of genetic discrimination reported by patients in the country.

According to the news release, the life insurance sector will also have a panel discussing ideas to revolutionize the market and make it more accessible to all, achieved through being brave and demystifying and simplifying life insurance cover to meet customer demands.

There will also be a breakout session discussing the achievement of balance between technology, legislation, and innovation, a timely topic given the continued proliferation of generative artificial intelligence (AI) across the insurance industry.

For the health sector, there will be another panel dedicated to discussions around the New Zealand health system and the relationship between the government and private sectors. Another breakout session will be devoted to the discussion around equity and fairness in the health system, with debates centred around the Pharmac funding system, ACC, prevention, and education.

The FSC Conference 2023 will be held Aug. 15-17, themed around building consumer confidence.
